For our regular website visitors we thought it might be helpful to put one of our products under the spotlight with a short highlight article in words & pictures which will change every month or so.
We are delighted to have decided to start with one of our longest running 'Blending' products we call 'Minicolor'.
Concept
The Motan Minicolor dosing unit is the original 'auger' or 'screw' type volumetric dosing unit. It was conceived and designed to meet the needs of injection moulding & extrusion companies who wished to colour their virgin polymer themselves in house, thereby having the flexibility to change colour at will and to save money by not having to purchase & store ready compounded material.
Like all Motan products the Minicolor is still manufactured in southern Germany today. The 1st version used a horizontally mounted screw which was importantly upgraded to our current inclined screw 15 years ago. Since then the overall design has hardly changed despite several reviews.
A piece of Motan history
The Motan Minicolor has been often copied but we like to think its never been bettered. Its still the most cost effective, simplest and accurate way to dose 1 or 2 components into virgin polymer.

Latest Evolution
We have produced 1000s of our trusted Minicolors over the past 25 years. The original Minicolor is still available and now named Minicolor V (volumetric). Furthermore in more recent years Motan have introduced a 'gravimetric' version called Minicolor G (gravimetric) so that calibration is automatic and you dont need to worry about bulk density changes in the polymers.
Crucial Cruciform
One of the critical design elements which sometimes sets the Minicolor apart is the clever use of a cruciform which allows the screw to dose into a void before coming together with the virgin polymer at the machine throat in order to provide an excellent homogenous mix.
Cost saving calibration
What many of our customers may not fully appreciate is that there are considerable masterbatch savings possible, but your volumetric dosing units MUST be properly calibrated. Motan Ltd can arrange quality training courses which can pay for themselves surprisingly quickly.
Control systems
Throughout the years we have offered basic control systems at minimal cost, and also a more 'advanced' control which is easier to calibrate. Our latest Gravinet MC uses touchscreen technology with simple to use on screen graphics all at your finger tips.
